Someone stops speaking, and before the silence settles, we're already offering the next thought or question. To us, it's being attentive. What we don't stop to ask is what might have finished forming if we hadn't stepped in. The Pivot Most of what people bring to us is a first draft. We cut it short without intention. The clarifying detail, or the harder truth sitting just underneath, usually needs a few more seconds than we give it before we step in with our own take. We tell ourselves we're moving things forward. Sometimes we're just moving past what isn't yet complete. The Move This week, notice the space that opens once someone stops talking.
