Leading the Pivot | What Silence Costs The Moment We stayed quiet and told ourselves that was the professional thing to do. We didn't have the full picture yet, so we held back the explanation. Somewhere on the other end of that gap, someone was left to fill in what we didn't say. The Pivot But silence rarely stays careful. What we don't say doesn't disappear, it moves into the gap and settles there, left for someone else to decide. The other person fills that space with their own guess, usually the worst one, and builds from there. We hold our share of that cost too, even when we call the silence discretion. What we could have said would have given them something to stand on, not something to guess at. The Move So before you go silent again, ask what you're actually protecting. What would it cost you to say the thing instead, before someone else decides what the silence means?
